CMT’s 48th Season is Revealed!

CMT had our amazing Preview Night on Saturday in the parking lot behind the rehearsal hall. Close to a thousand performers, parents, siblings, and other members of the CMT community showed up, had a cookout, watched live performances, and finally discovered which shows we’ll be featuring as part of CMT San Jose’s 48th season. CMT families started claiming their spots as early as 5 a.m. for our annual season reveal party.

This photo was taken just before noon, and the first chairs started appearing around 5 a.m.

Camp CMT session I campers started the evening with a fabulously choreographed performance of “Holding Out for a Hero,” followed by high-energy highlights from our three upcoming summer shows: Pinocchio, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and American Idiot.

We revealed the first-ever winner of the Miller Family Performance Scholarship, a $20,000 merit-based award for students who will be enrolled in a performing arts program in a college or university in the next year. Brent Miller presented the award on behalf of his family to a grateful and incredibly deserving Shawn Clifford. Congratulations, Shawn!

Finally, it was time for the big reveal of next year’s titles! Thanks to legendary visual effects artist Josh Miyaji, we shared some fantastic clue-filled trailers that kept the crowd guessing until the very end, and at times erupting in cheers.

Everyone's so happy about Rent!

Thank you to everyone who participated! We’re so excited for what our 48th season has in store.

Cab Night is almost here!

I’m really looking forward to Cabaret Night! I joined CMT earlier this month so I’ve spent the last few weeks getting to know this awesome organization — and I already get to experience the night of the year! It’s really going to be special. The theme for this year’s Cab Night is “Heroes vs. Villains” and we’re going to see highlights from more than a dozen past CMT performances (including Les Misérables, Spamalot and Hairspray, which are some of my favorites). The menu looks amazing, and even includes an appetizing vegetarian option. The auction looks fun, too! We’ll have lots of great products and services up for bid.

We’ve all been collaborating on Cab Night. The performers have been rehearsing with the artistic team, volunteers have been in and out of the office putting together various aspects of the event, and the box office has been working hard selling tickets and answering questions. Our Cab Night co-chairs, Shelley Ballard and Kimberly Moore, are at the venue right now setting up, and we’ll have more rehearsals today and tomorrow. Soon we’ll see the fruits of our labor, and it’s really, really exciting.

I’m on Instagram as @cmtsj and if you feel like sharing your photos, be sure to tag it with #cabnite2015. See you there!
